Preventive Services

Consistent, rather than occasional, preventive maintenance is our goal for each patient. Using digital photos and digital x-rays, we can identify any problem areas and design a custom treatment plan based on your needs rather than using a “blanket routine” for every patient. Our computer software also allows us to compare images from visit to visit so we can precisely monitor all aspects of your oral health. We also take the time to explain any problems or dental concerns we discover and how our recommendations can provide solutions.

Neuromuscular Dentistry

Do you grind your teeth at night? Do you suffer from unexplained headaches, backaches, or even sinus congestion?
The problem may be caused by a painful misalignment of your jaw. You may be suffering from temporomandibular joint disease, also known as TMD or TMJ.

What is TMJ?

Temporomandibular joint disease (TMD) is a chronic, degenerative disease affecting up to 75 million adults. People who suffer from TMD have a structural imbalance in their jaw-to-skull relationship caused by a bite that is out of alignment. This misalignment is known as malocclusion.
The symptoms of TMD include the following:

  • Headaches or migraines
  • Unexplained loose teeth
  • Worn, chipped or cracked teeth
  • Cracked, chipped or broken dental restorations
  • Pain or soreness around the jaw joints
  • Pain in teeth that seems to move around
  • Neck, shoulder or back pain
  • Facial pain
  • Clicking or grating sounds in the jaw joints
  • Limited movement or locking jaw
  • Numbness in your fingers and arms
  • Congestion or stuffiness of the ears

How Does Neuromuscular Dentistry Help?

The good news is that advances in the science of neuromuscular dentistry have taught us how to bring the jaw into a relaxed position. For example, we may recommend the use of dental restorations to precisely raise or lower areas of your bite, creating a naturally comfortable position for your jaw. In most cases, we can reposition your jaw without surgery or braces and complete the treatment in just a few weeks.

The Results: Feeling and Looking Better!

We have found that many patients experience a moderate to significant change in the facial appearance after treatment. Patients who had recessed lower jaws may have a new profile including a stronger jaw line and chin. Areas of the jaw that may have protruded will be pulled back into alignment. And all of the restorations necessary to correct your bite will be created with consideration to the aesthetic result of your smile.

Full-Mouth Rejuvenation

It sounds just as wonderful as it is: a complete restoration, rejuvenation,  and rehabilitation of your mouth. After Full-Mouth Rejuvenation, you have a beautiful smile, a healthy bite, and a renewed feeling of confidence.

Why Full-Mouth Rejuvenation?

When a person’s jaw is misaligned, known as malocclusion, teeth can wear down unevenly, chip, or even break. Older restorations such as fillings or caps can be damaged. Worse, malocclusion can cause a variety of annoying symptoms (see description of these in our Neuromuscular Dentistry section).
The result is an unattractive smile that adds years to your appearance, decreases your self-esteem, and affects your overall health.

What is Full-Mouth Rejuvenation?

This process blends the science of neuromuscular dentistry with the artistry of aesthetic dentistry, creating smiles that are functionally sound, physically healthy, and visually appealing.

Am I a Candidate?

This treatment may be appropriate for you if:

  • You experience pain or numbness in your jaw, neck, back or arm
  • Have chronic stuffiness or congestion in your sinuses or ears
  • Have missing or chipped teeth

What is involved in the treatment?

Our process typically follows these steps:

  • We will determine if your jaw is in its optimal position. If not, you will be treated for malocclusion.
  • Once your bite is corrected, we will begin the aesthetic part of the process.
  • We first remove your old restorations and any decay.
  • We will then take impressions of the underlying healthy tooth structures and make temporaries for you.
  • During your final appointment, we will replace the temporaries with your permanent restorations.
  • Behold the new and improved, younger-looking you!

Gum Disease

It is estimated that over 85% of the population has some degree of gum disease. In fact, more people lose teeth today from periodontal disease than from cavities.

Gum disease is an infection of the gums and jawbones that is caused by the colonization of bacteria underneath the tartar on your teeth. This bacteria can also enter the blood stream and cause serious problems in distant parts of your body. Research now shows that gum disease can be linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, premature births and low birth weight.

There are often no noticeable symptoms of gum disease for a long time. A dentist or hygienist must do a thorough and complete examination to detect gum disease, especially in its early stages.

We use the following services and technologies to treat gum disease:

  • COMPUTERIZED CHARTING-Our computer software allows us to measure the depth of the periodontally infected areas as well as the healthy areas. We can compare your readings from one appointment to the next and provide you with a graphic printout so you can see how you are doing and where you can help yourself with better home care. This also allows us to tailor our treatment, specifically  for you.
  • CAVITRON ULTRASONIC INSTRUMENTATION- We use the most modern ultrasonic equipment available to remove plaque buildup quickly and comfortably.
  • SOFT TISSUE THERAPY - Our periodontal therapists have been thoroughly trained to remove the bacterial ridden plaque and tartar deposits that colonize the roots during periodontal disease. This is the key to eliminating periodontal disease.
  • CAVI-JET-in addition to the traditional polishing or buffing that you are accustomed to, we also utilize an air polishing system(like a mini power sprayer) to remove stains from your teeth.
